4 Ways to Fight Hunger

If you’re looking to lose weight, you need to create a caloric deficit in your diet. How you do that is up to you, whether it’s consuming less calories, exercising to burn more calories, or a combination of both. Chances are, if you’re trying to lose body fat, you ARE going to be hungry. Expect it and accept it. We hear people complaining, “I’m starving!” when they’re dieting. Well no, you’re not ACTUALLY starving. People living on the streets digging through the trash for other people’s leftovers – those people are starving. You are hungry. And it’s okay! It’s a natural body reaction. So, let’s talk about ways that you can deal with it.

Often times, thirst is going to disguise itself as hunger. Drink up! Either the water is going to make the hunger dissipate, or it’s not and you’re just going to end up a little more hydrated. Either way, you win. Drinking water regularly both between meals and DURING meals will help your stomach feel much more satisfied and make you feel less hunger.

EAT FOR VOLUME
You know how when you were a kid, your mom would tell you to eat all your veggies? That still applies today, folks! Vegetables allow you to consume a large volume of food without consuming a large quantity of calories. Thus, you can feel full without ruining your caloric deficit. Vegetables can be another tool for determining whether or not you’re legitimately hungry – or just craving something. Let’s say you see a commercial for pizza on TV and you think to yourself “Wow! I’m hungry!” Are you actually hungry then, or just craving pizza because you have the image in your head? Ask yourself, “Would I eat 2 cups of broccoli right now?” If the answer is yes – you’re hungry. If the answer is no – then it’s likely just a craving.

REACH FOR CAFFEINE
Caffeine is a natural appetite suppressant as well as a natural thermogenic! Often times people who are dieting start by cutting out things like coffee and soda. While it’s a GREAT idea to shy away from drinking your calories, ditching the caffeine is going to make you more hungry! Black coffee can be a great way to curb your appetite. CONTROL YOUR BLOOD SUGAR

Others cut carbs in the evening to keep their blood sugar lower before bed time. Either way, you’re still creating fluctuations in your blood sugar, which is a naturally occurring bodily function. With meals that do contain more carbs, adding cinnamon to them can naturally lower insulin resistance and in turn help control your blood sugar. Why is this significant here? Because large drops in blood sugar (after an insulin spike) tend to surface as hunger!
